It’s hard? Good! Growth doesn’t come from what is easy. We don’t get better when doing what is comfortable. Yet when things get hard we rarely appreciate them for the opportunity of growth they are. Sure, after the fact we do. Just listen to anyone tell a story about their greatest success. It always centers around a hardship that they overcame. The hindsight stories are great and all but rarely do we appreciate it in the moment. We complain, we say that we don’t want to do it and we end up “forcing” ourselves to get it done. Why build that cycle of convincing yourself that hard is bad? When your lungs are burning and all you want to do is stop running, tell yourself good! This is why I’m here, I’m improving. You’re half way through your burpees and want nothing more than to stop, good. Again, growth doesn’t happen without pushing yourself and why not appreciate it for what it is. The slight shift from “I don’t want to” to “I get to,” from “Ugh, it’s hard” to “good, it’s hard” will make a huge difference. Will the burpee be easier? Nope.
