How long does it take you to eat a meal? Twenty minutes? Ten? Less than that? Ok, nearly 25 minutes for a plate of fish and chips is kind of overkill. But there's a point to be made. In the United States, the average meal lasts 11 minutes, with breakfast and lunch coming in at just 2 minutes. Why does this matter? Because being full is actually a complex biological process that involves not only the amount of food in your stomach, but also the number of times you chew, the time you spend eating, the look of the food on the plate... It takes time for your brain to process the signals coming from your mouth and stomach that indicate that you're full. So, if you bolt your food, your brain won't realise that your stomach is full. And if that happens, you're more likely to overeat. And if THAT happens, you're more likely to gain weight. So slow down. Chew more. Savour the flavour. Stop to have some water between bites. Take the time to enjoy your food. And if you want to challenge yourself, try eating a meal with a stopwatch running. You might be surprised. My lunch! Baked sweet potato in the oven at 400-450 degrees for 45 min. . Boiled or steamed broccoli, just for 10 min I like to eat it crispy. . Feeling so blissed out and ready for the day ahead. I’m trying to incorporate more yoga into my recovery. I’m finding it really gives me a space to relax, refocus and stretch away the tightness. Movement 🤸‍♂️ • • • A habit that is slowly starting to stick is starting my day doing 5mins of stretching and movement whilst the coffee machine ticks over ☕️ • • • Some of these exercises are taken from my pre-workout warm up routine, some from a few cameo appearances at yoga classes and some that, to be honest, just feel good! • • • This I feel is 🔑 - The main purpose of this is to loosen up the body and get it moving again after being completely still for however many hours you’ve been sleeping. There’s no real structure to this - A lot of the stuff I make up! And the stretches and movements I do change depending on where I’m feeling it most on the day. Today (like most days) I felt it most in my lower back and hammys, so naturally they got a bit more attention. • • • Here’s a list of the different movements I string together: • Bottom Squat - always start my day spending 60secs down here. If you can’t sit in the bottom squat without falling backwards then hold onto something for support. • Gorilla stretch - from the bottom squat keep your finger tips underneath your toes and raise your hips to the ceiling, ideally straightening the legs. Walks hands around the feet and add a few pulses to really find those tight spots in the hammys. These first 2 I do every singe day 👌 • Downward dog • Childs pose • Worlds greatest stretch • Cat Camels • Glute Bridge I aim for 5mins of this and it sets me up nicely for the day. Demonstrating exercises for my 6am definitely becomes easier! • • • Hit save and give a few of these a go first thing in the morning and trust me, your body will thank you for it 👍 • • • Make sure you tag me if you do do it! How to build strength workout size by isolating tendons ⬇️ ⛓ Consider a chain - it’s only as strong as its weakest link. So it is with the body, regardless of how much muscle someone possess, muscle is not the only ‘link’ in the chain of human strength. ⛓ Muscles attach to tendons, which in turn attach to bones. All three are vitally important in the chain of strength. When a muscle contracts, the tendons transmit the force of the muscle. They work to assist the delivery of power in order to move the body (and in turn weight or thing you’re attempting to move). Without strong tendons, the muscles cannot deliverer their intended force - there is a weakness in the chain. ⛓ Isometric training is a type of strength training in which the joint angle and muscle length do not change during contraction (compared to concentric or eccentric contractions, called dynamic movements or full range motion exercises/training). #Repost @fitcetera ・・・ Apparently bouldering gives me stretch-armstrong arms. 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️ Last night was another awesome evening of climbing at @stronghold_uk with some of my favourite people. 🙌🏼 One of my favourite moments from the evening has to be @der@derrickgoesrunning challenging me to tackle a tough corner climb with sloping holds - I had to press rather than pull to work my way up the wall, as well as bridging the corner, and it felt AWESOME to tick that problem off the list, despite my pounding heart! - - - Other highlights have to be watching @luc@lucindavs nail a hard route and then hanging tough from the top, seeing @she@shellie0055 be an absolute climbing badass as usual, wrestling with @ianrunsldn (there's no better place to fight it out than on a padded floor, right?!) and all having a good old go at a dynamic start to a climb... check out the slo-mo video for my failed attempt! - - - It's always so much fun bouldering and I definitely want to keep up a more regular climbing schedule.
