Activate your back, prevent injury. I hate the term “warm-up” because too many people think it means that you only need to elevate your core body temperature before running, squatting, or deadlifting 500 pounds. All of those tasks use different muscles with different activation patterns. Your “warm-up” or movement preparation as the Marine Raiders trainers have started calling it, should be designed to activate the muscles you are about to move, and practice the patterns you’re asking your body to exhibit. Bird dogs, planks, and rotating side planks are great prep exercises to get your back and core firing prior to any sort of hip hinging, deadlift, or squat. Gains.

I'm also in a one bed apt with a large dog, so space is tight, AND my son's room is an 8x8 square den with no door (we hung curtains), so workouts must be quiet enough not to disturb him while he naps and I workout. The excuses could go on and on, but I don't let that stop me from reaching my goals. I still get it done. Period. YOU can too! What you see is the EXACT equipment I use. Yoga mat. Kettlebell.
