Lucked out on a couple of “shelf turds” tonight as the beer nerds call them. Two 8-month-old bottles of @dogfishhead 120 Minute at a lower price than I’ve ever seen them. Decided to stash one to let it age a full year, and pop the other right away. A HUGE (triple?) IPA with an ABV of approximately 17%(!), this is not merely some hop bomb, in fact despite a heavy bitterness it has a very complex cognac-like character with notes of dates, cherry, molasses, butterscotch, marzipan, oak and leather. Yet it’s deceptively easy to drink. It’s seriously one of the biggest and boldest beers out there, and you owe it to yourself to track it down, plunk down the coin, and treat yourself at least once.
