Change usually happens outside of an industry.
Uber changed the taxi industry.
Netflix changed the movie rental industry.
People are creatures of habit.
We get good at something, we get comfortable, and we get complacent.
Within any industry there's a lot of copy-cat, me-too, sloppy seconds, idea swapping and incest.
One person does something, then everyone else does their version.
First beer. Then there is light beer. Then there is high gravity beer. Then summer beer. Beer for women. Non-alcoholic beer. And on and on.
It becomes a herd.
Think about colloquialisms.
The word 'swagger' was on EVERYTHING a few years ago.
Then it was 'boss'. Now it is secure the bag.
By August it'll be something else.
Be very careful not to fall into the 'what is hot right now' - as a long-term strategy.
And at the same time, be willing to blow up what you're doing and go a different direction when you feel like it's time.
Never be a prisoner to what is working because everything changes.
Entropy is real.
Balance it with being smart about what changes you're willing to accept and fold into your business strategy.
Evolution will happen.
But as it does, control your own narrative.
