De alguna manera cuando se toca el tema de “Descanso de la Dieta” las personas entran en pánico, ya que sale totalmente del contexto que la clave para el éxito esta en seguir la dieta al pie de la letra, morirse de hambre y sentirse miserable por un periodo de tiempo. Es común encontrar que la mayoría de personas que entra en un dieta termina dejándola justamente por esas razones . El descanso de la dieta ha sido también tocado por Lyle McDonald en su libro “A Guide to Flexible Dieting”, en este nos explica que personas que siguen un patrón más flexible con su alimentacion tienen mayor adherencia y probabilidades de abandonarla. Como recordaran la adherencia tanto en la alimentación como en el entrenamiento es FUNDAMENTAL! . Así mismo múltiples estudios nos muestran que personas que han seguido periodos de descaso durante la dieta han conseguido los mismos resultados a personas que seguían un protocolo estricto. Asimismo, un resiente estudio del 2017 por Byrne y colegas, tomo a dos grupos de personas con sobre peso y las sometió a dos protocolos. El grupo A realizo por 2 semanas una restricción en sus calorías seguida de 2 semanas de mantenimiento calórico. El grupo B realizo un deficit sin cortes. Lo que encontraron fue que el A tuvo 50% más en perdida de grasa, menor alteración en el metabolismo y menor perdida de masa muscular al grupo B . Tomar un descanso también tiene grandes beneficios a nivel de nuestro metabolismo, ya que como sabemos, cuando se esta en largos periodos de tiene el metabolismo a caer así como hormonas como la leptina, insulina, tiroides, etc. Entonces tener un descanso por 7 a 14 días seria lo optimo para que estas puedan volver a sus niveles normales . Como una recomendación, personas que tengan porcentajes bajos en grasa 15 o menos deberían hacerlo mas seguido y de 15 para arriba con menor frecuencia. Happy Sunday fam Back days are my favorite, I get to do pull ups and see my lats grow. Funny thing is I used to hate doing pull ups. When I started doing them, I was barely able to do 5 and now I'm doing weighted pull ups. This didn't happen over night, it took time and patience especially since I used to hate doing this exercise. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and get shit done.

Going on a little road trip today for a basketball tournament. Because I’ve already eaten my 2 “cheat” meals for this week (Friday and yesterday), I have to figure out a way to make it work for lunch today. One thing I’ve had to learn to do on days like this, is to eat my normal breakfast before we go out to eat. If I try to “save” my calories for lunch, by the time we get to the restaurant, I’m starving and much more likely to justify having just one more cheat meal😂 I have a whole conversation in my head, making excuses for why it’s ok to have whatever I want because I’m starving. If I go to the restaurant a little hungry, and not hangry, I’m much more likely to order something closer to what I would meal prep at home...like steak and veggies or some kind of grilled chicken or fish. And if I can’t find anything like that, I just adjust my food for the rest of the day 👌🏻 our minds love to play tricks on us, we just have to learn how to play the game too.

Best exercises for back? By @smurray_32 ➖ In general, compound exercises that include shoulder extension and/or adduction seem best for stimulating maximal latissimus dorsi. In Lehman’s terms, the lats appears to produce greatest muscle activity during any vertical pulling exercises such as pull-downs/pull-ups as well as during horizontal pulling exercises such as various row variations. ➖ Deadlifts: Though not an essential exercise for back growth, Beggs et al (2011) showed that both a double overhand (pronated) or mixed (one hand pronated, one hand supinated) grip using heavier loads (80%1RM) displayed significantly superior lat activity than lighter loads (60%1RM). Therefore, if you opt to include deadlifts into your training program, heavier loads seem to be superior for overall stimulation vs lighter ones. ➖ Lat pulldowns: Studies have concluded a pronated grip (Lusk et al 2009) brought to the front of the neck (not behind the neck) (Signorile et al 2002) using a “middle grip” of ~1.5 biacromial distance (Andersen et al  2014) be the most optimal in recruiting the lats during a lat pulldown. The addition of a close grip pulldown could also be an effective variation for increasing trap recruitment. ➖ Pullups: Studies have shown both pullups and chin ups to elicit very similar amounts of lat recruitment when relative loads are equal (Doma et al 2013). However, though lat recruitment may be similar, bicep and pec recruitment have shown to be significantly more in chin-ups vs pullups which have greater trap and less bicep recruitment (Youdas et al 2010). ➖ Rows: Though it’s still unclear whether horizontal or vertical pulling exercises display SUPERIOR lat activity, one study by Lehman et al (2005) reported that the seated row displayed significantly greater lat activity than the lat pull-down, especially when retracting the scapula therefore, a row variation is only of benefit in order to optimize your back training. ➖ Practical implications: The lats can be maximised by using heavy loads and a mix of both horizontal and vertical pulling.

Happy Sunday friends!! 💕 It’s the day to get your shit together (or maybe just me) Last week was SUPERR taxing - literally I slept 12 hours every night this weekend.
