Today was called Upper Body Chisel 😑 Almost a repeat of the same from a few days ago but giant sets. My arms are so dead AF. Don’t let me get started on the face pulls. I have learned, to improve you must face self doubt and uncertainty head on. I almost didn’t do them because I felt awkward. But I did them. I played the damn how to video a hundred times. I use to think that I was the only one that did that. I’m not. How else are you going to learn? Everyone starts somewhere! Also, today I was so focused on getting these giant sets in, I didn’t have time to record. I was struggling on my last set. Sadly - 99/100...the poor old facepull gets used and abused, so we get none of these potential benefits. Let’s set that straight. ________ ❌ The video says it all, but it all starts with selecting an overly ambitious weight. This throws form out the window and turns the exercise into an ugly elbows flared rowing type motion. Nothing can be gained here apart from probable shoulder pain and killing time. ________ ✅ ✔️First and foremost, chose a light weight that you can control. ✔️Sit upright and brace abs...don’t let those ribs flare when you pull the rope. ✔️Aim for your throat / chin. ✔️Keep wrists relaxed. ✔️Drive back with the elbows but also externally rotate the shoulders (think about ending in a double bicep pose). ✔️Wrists should be in line with the elbow at the fully contracted /shortened position. ✔️Shoulder blades comes together. ✔️As you lower the weight, REACH forward to round the shoulder blades. Okay you guys, I’m about to get all emotional for a quick second😔 ———— Yesterday was the first day in 4 weeks that I had stepped foot into the gym and picked up more than my water bottle. Yesterday was the day I got the okay from my doctor to start training again which is great! Except I set totally unrealistic expectations for myself and really let myself down. —— The gym has been my safe haven for more than a year now, the place I go to cool down, work out aggression, better myself, and watch myself grow, many of my followers know my transformation and how far I have come! But in my head I thought “okay Maddie today your doctor is gonna give you the go ahead to get back in gym and everything’s gonna go back to normal” so when I got to the gym yesterday and could barely do more than 15lbs I felt something that I haven’t felt in a long time. It was like everything I have worked so hard to achieve up to that point was for absolutely nothing. I felt so defeated. I honestly cried in my car for a bit after leaving the gym. I realized how much I took being able to freely workout for granted. (I will say this, I am not by any means saying that this is the worst thing in the world, I know there are much worse things, and I don’t want people to feel sorry for me, I am just sharing my raw emotion with you guys) ———— It’s been a very hard month. Emotionally, mentally, and physically. I’ve been tried and I’ve pushed through. So instead of letting this keep me down I am going to pick myself up and just hit the reset button and try things out a new way. I can barely raise my arms.😂 ••• The Workout: 1️⃣* 3x12 Around the Worlds: Keep a slight bend in elbows to prevent injury! 2️⃣* 3x10 Front & Side Lateral Raises: Keep a slight bend in elbows to prevent injury! These had me STRUGGLING lolol. This part was filmed on the last set 🤦🏻‍♀️ 3️⃣ 3x12 Cable Face Pulls ••• Exercises 1&2 can be performed as a superset! Perform them back to back with little to no rest in between. After completing both, take a 30-60 second rest and complete the superset two more times for a total of three sets! ••• I really love hearing feedback from you guys!
