Saturday afternoon adventures 🏖🐾. One happy pup! We stayed out until sunset. #beachisbest#outpastmybedtime .
Sally’s human here. Can we talk seriously about altered images on IG?
The 📸 of Sally in the snowdrops yesterday got messages I had to delete. For some reason her leash seemed to upset people. I got two commentators offering to photoshop it out as it “spoilt the look” and another two disgusted that I had my dog on a leash! #youcantpleaseeveryone.
Sally was onleash because @cambostables request dogs are kept onleash so as they don’t damage the 🌲☘️🌸. It took ages to find a place where we could take pics without flattening any snowdrops, look carefully she’s sitting on bare earth not flowers!. #leavenotrace
If Sally ever has to be on a leash I’ll never make an effort to hide or disguise it in 📸. It’s disingenuous to delete it and give people the impression that 1. offleash is permitted in that location and 2. Sally’s recall is 💯%. It’s not. We live in the real world surrounded by real dangers and rules we must live by. I will not alter the leash to make a “better” picture. I’m getting dismayed by the number of 📸 I see of northern breed dogs where when you enlarge and look closely you can see that the leash has been carefully and skilfully removed in editing. This gives new puppy parents the impression that their dogs will be able to go frolic and hike offleash with their humans in all conditions. This is selling a lie, northern breeds have selective hearing and there are times where a leash is essential! And it’s not just dog accounts where this is happening. I’m getting sick of seeing Scottish landmarks without the pylons that we know are there (Kilchurn castle and the Kelpies come to mind, among others). Choose camera angles to leave them out of shot or work with them. But don’t pretend! We owe it to ourselves as photographers to take the “best” possible 📸 of what’s before us. Please can I ask, if you post an highly edited image for artistic reasons - state it’s been edited! That way your editing skill can be appreciated without the deceit. Please keep it real and enjoy your adventures! P.S. Sally was offleash for this 📸!
