This image is easily why I adore my middle school debate kids. They had a rough outing tonight at a massive speech & debate tournament. However, instead of complaining and quiting, this is what I found on our ride home. Students using their lights on their phones to read and record information from their judge's ballots.
I've asked so much of them these past few months, and they continue to raise bar on their own.

After an abysmal start to the 2017 season at 0-4, the LA chargers finished the season 9-3 with losses to the NE and JAX (two teams that met in the AFC championship). Could this late season push foreshadow a season of success in 2018?
Offense: In today’s NFL, offense focus has been extremely pass-heavy, so it is a must to have a good QB. This is one of the strong points of the Chargers as they are led by a possible HOF QB in Phillip Rivers. Rivers is one of the most consistent QB in the league as he hasn’t missed a single game since 2006 and also hasn’t thrown for less than 3,000 yards in a season. Rivers is surrounded by a core of WR that is led by Keenan Allen who went for almost 1,400 yds in the 2017 season. Along with Tyrell Williams, Hunter Henry (TE), and a speedy Travis Benjamin, the passing attack is certainly a threat. Along with a slightly above-average offensive line, led by veteran Russel Okung, opening up holes for RB Melvin Gordon (1,100 rush yds), the Chargers offensive attack will be well-rounded and should not be taken lightly.
Defense: While the offense looks like the strength of the team, it was actually the defense that carried the team in 2017. The Chargers were 3rd in the league in both passing yards allowed per game and points allowed per game. This was mainly because of a strong group of CB that was be led Casey Hayward who had 4 picks last season. Much of this success was without arguably their best CB, Jason Verrett, who, in his last full season, had 5 ints himself. The other reason the Chargers had so much success shutting down the passing attacks of opposing teams was from rising superstar DE Joey Bosa (arguably the team’s best player) who recorded 12.5 sacks and made the Pro Bowl in his 2nd season. The area that needs to improve for this defense is protecting the run. While LB Melvin Ingram had his best season yet and made the Pro Bowl at the LB position, he needs some help. The Chargers will look to DT Corey Liuget and LB Korey Toomer to have continued success in hopes that they can improve their rush defense for the 2018 season.
You: Will the Chargers be a serious threat in the AFC in 2018?
