Something I don’t show you guys a lot are my ab routines. There’s two reasons for that; 1) I’ve been slacking on doing abs, and 2) No one has really asked to see it. However, I’ve recently been trying to do them more regularly during my workouts. Shown here are hanging extended sit ups with added weight! These hit your entire core, and can even hit your obliques (side of core) by twisting on your way down and up! A lot of people do shrugs when they work back, but they make a huge mistake! They almost always forget to hit the back part of their trap muscle! By doing these, just seated and bent over dumbbell shrugs, you target only your back part of your trap! Let’s talk about abs. A lot of people think that by simply doing your average sit-ups, that they will develop stellar abs. Firstly, everyone has abs to begin with, some just have visible ones due to their body fat percentage. Abs will only show if you have a low enough body fat percent (which varies from person to person). Also, doing regular sit ups, and variations of that, will not help develop defined abs. Sure, it’ll work them, but they won’t get bigger and more defined when you finally are able to show them off. That’s why I love to do these. These are cable crunches, that allow you target the majority of your abs in one motion, and also allow you to add weight to the exercise. This will make your abs stronger, more defined, and create a “deep” look between each individual ab! So, don’t expect a 6-pack without first losing fat from your stomach, and make sure to add weighted variations of ab exercises in order to fully develop those abs! Something I get asked a lot is if I incorporate warm ups, and if I do, do I stretch during those said warm ups. The answer is yes, I stretch before every workout, and my warm up begins with stretching. However, if you feel loose enough, or just ready to rock as soon as you step in the gym, you don’t have to do a warm up and/or stretch before you begin working out! Do what you are comfortable with, and what works for you! Anyways, here is a series of stretches I usually do before every leg session! I also like to do dynamic stretches, which are just a series of rapidly swinging my legs to loosen my hips, as well as what you see here! As you probably saw on my story, I skipped working my rear delts yesterday and made up for it today. Rear delts are an important part of your shoulder, but they’re much too often overlooked. Despite the fact that a developed delt makes your shoulders look better and bigger, people consciously skip over them. The best advice I can give, is to start incorporating these in your push days (chest, shoulders, and triceps) or whenever you workout your shoulders. On top of making your shoulders look bigger, a well-developed delt aids in bench press. As @ptfitness500 has said in a post of his, the more surface area you have to work with on a bench, the more power you can push upward, therefore helping you increase your bench. So, if you watch my stories, you already know that I was finally able to throw up 100 pound dumbbells on the flat bench! I know it was only for 3 reps, and they were as low as I would have liked to get, but I’m still super happy! I’m seeing strength progress, something I’ve strived for since the beginning of this bulk. I changed my workout routine, setup, and even exercises, and it’s finally all starting to show! This is something I think many people get frustrated by...the length of time it takes to actually see results. Do you guys remember last time I posted a video of me squatting 315? It was for 5 reps, and each rep was assisted.... Here is my FIFTH, yes fifth, set of 315! All unassisted, and all for either 4 reps, or 3 (on my first set) reps. Not only was this a new thing for me, but I also squatted 345 today! A new unassisted PR for me, and I couldn’t be more hype about it! These sets of 315 were after my 345 PR, and were followed up by AMRAP sets of 295 (which I only did 3 sets of 6 of). During my pull days, and most of my workouts in general, I try to add in as much variety as I can. I believe that the more variety you incorporate to hit a specific muscle group (such as back in this case) the faster and bigger your muscles will grow. So here, I am doing reverse-gripped rows, but instead of doing it with a barbell, or in a seated position using the cables, I did a bent over standing variation. This allowed me to add more weight, and still be in a controlled motion the entire time. Also, it allowed me to really isolate my lower lat, as well as the center of my back in general! Legs went well yesterday! Not the heaviest workout, but very voluminous! First clip shows a variation of squats which put a huge emphasis on my quads, but unfortunately stressed my knees too much, so I️ couldn’t do as many reps for this final set as I️ would have liked. One of the most frustrating things for me is the feeling of a lack of motivation. These past few days have been rough in the gym, simply because i’ve had little motivation to get better. Instead, i’ve went just to say I️ went. I️ went through the motions for the most part. Thinking about it, and knowing i’m in a slump right now is so hard for me, but that’s a part of lifting. Knowing when you’re in a slump is key to knowing when to back off and recover. Due to this, I’m taking a deload week in hopes my body responds positively and I️ can look forward to lifting and getting stronger. As for this picture, well my legs are growing in size, (picture was from today), and that helped me mentally push through this leg workout. Some videos from today will be posted tomorrow!

For deadlifting today, I️ went with a volume emphasis for my conventional sets, hitting 315 lbs. for sets of 10, 8, 8, and then 7. (I️ aimed for 10 each time, unfortunately I️ didn’t get that). But shown here, are a couple of sets of my deficit sets. This was on a 6 inch deficit block, and I’m happy with how these moved. I️ did 5 sets of 3 at 315 lbs. (shown in the first clip) and then 3 sets of 1 at 365 lbs. (shown in the second clip). You guys haven’t seen many posts involving my bench press progress, and that’s because I am not happy with it. Bench has always been my weakest part of my lifting, and by far the most frustrating. Though I don’t skip over chest days, I just don’t usually record any clips to post for you guys. Here, however, is a set of eccentric bench presses. This is simply lowering the weight as slow as possible to your chest, and have your spotter help you lift it up to the top of the rep every time. It helps in overloading your chest with weight you usually wouldn’t be able to put up, which is essential in gaining muscle, no matter the muscle group! So yesterday was an hour long squat session, and hit some new numbers during it! I️ managed to do 275 for 3 sets of 10 reps! (the set before that I️ did 225 for 20) I️ felt super good about my numbers so I️ decided to do 10 sets of 10 of 225 after those three top sets. Yes, I’m crazy. Shown here, however, is my “finisher” since I️ knew I️ would have to finish up my legs today. It’s a simple slowed eccentric movement, paired with a low seated pause, for 3 sets of 6. I️ did these at 225 pounds and it absolutely obliterated my legs. Today, I️ hope to get some more videos of different leg exercises you guys can start incorporating into your routine! (also, I️’m sorry for the lack of posts lately. My workouts have been going well, but they’re just not anything worth putting on here for you guys to see. Thanks to a good friend (@mikeymaybeme ) I realized my last few leg days have started out with a less than optimal squat session. Well yesterday, I changed that. I attempted a new body weight PR of 335 (unfortunately failed) but did get 295 for 2 solid sets of 4. Shown here, though, is my third and final set of burnouts at 275. My brother @richieliberio was kind enough to spot me so I could push out as many reps as I could. Yesterday’s leg day wasn’t the best, due to a strange feeling in my knees. They just felt shaky and not stable, which made me too nervous to put on more weight. I moved up to 275 pounds for sets of 4, but shown here is 225 pounds for pause reps at the end of my session. I videotape a lot of different workouts, but not for the purpose of posting them here. I like to see what my form looks like as well as where I can improve during a lift to make the lift easier in general. My brother told me to start doing deficit deadlifts to strengthen my initial pull off the ground, and I usually don’t, but today I decided to. I videotaped for two reasons: 1. I wanted to see if my back was breaking form, and 2. I wanted to see if I was lifting my heels. Both are two big “no-no’s” when deadlifting, and surprisingly I didn’t break either rule. (thought I could tighten up the form a little bit better). I also see, now that I watched it back a few times, how easy I got 315 for four reps. This was after an entire normal deadlifting session, and so I was already starting to fatigue by the time I got to this point. Videos, and a huge reason as to why I enjoy sharing them with you guys, provide assistance with making yourself better. I can watch this, critique myself, and go back in next time I deadlift and do much better. So though a lot of people might see this and laugh at the fact it’s only 315 pounds, it’s important to understand the basis of improvement, whether you’re just starting, or have been putting forth a true effort for a long time. Everyone has to start somewhere, and for me, I’m just getting started with my improvements in the weight room. If you regularly see my posts, you know that my last leg day (only two days ago) was a shit-show, especially during my squat session. I couldn’t get it out of my mind, so today I decided to have another leg day as a “retry” 😂 I went in feeling just mediocre, but as I warmed up I felt great! And so I did my infamous 10 sets of 10 reps at 225 pounds of squats! Well actually, I did 101 reps because I miscounted during this clip of my last set and accidentally did 11, oh well. I actually felt so good that I went up to 275 pounds after this and got 4 reps! Thanks to @richieliberio for recording this, and as always I hope you enjoy the video! Two days ago, I had the worst leg day in probably my entire life. I felt nauseous the entire time, and super weak. I was barely able to squat 275 for 5 which I can do easily on a normal day. Sure I could make excuses, but honestly, I think it was my body telling me to ease up a bit. And so that’s what I did. Even though I’d rather get in as much weight and as much volume as I had planned, it’s not worth pushing yourself and suffering possible injuries. Instead, I kept to my machine and dumbbell work, which is what you can see here. Straight-legged dumbbell deadlifts are an absolute must for your leg days. They help strength not only your hamstrings, but your ass as well. I ended up doing 6 total sets of these for 12 reps (even though I miscounted in the video 😂) and super-setted with the good old leg press. Hopefully my next leg day is a lot better than this, but we’ll have to wait and see! Today was a pretty hard back day. Started off by deadlifting (which I pulled a top set of 425, failed on 430 around halfway up) then ran through my regular back routine. However, I noticed that I never really show you guys how my workouts tend to consist of. I decided to show you guys two of my favorite supersets for back to do. The first two clips here are one superset, and the second two clips are another. I really like doubling up on lat movements just because of the pump it delivers, so during your next back day give these two a try! Another leg day, another dollar. I hit squats pretty hard today and managed to get 5 solid sets of 2 at 295 pounds which I can’t complain about. I managed to get volume and weight in today, but it tired me out so bad that I had to push myself to finish the workout. But hey! that’s what makes you better and stronger! Anyways, here’s the last set of a variation of squats I like to do to finish out squats entirely. I get a 45lb. plate and put my heels on it in a close stance. Then from there, it’s your normal “ass to the grass” routine! You can really feel it in your hamstrings and believe it or not lower quads, which I really enjoy. The burn you feel is crazy especially when you do it after regular squats! Today was a back AND shoulder day as I decided to deadlift only over the weekend instead of having a full back day. I ended up having a pretty good workout today, and decided to have some fun before doing cardio (even tho I couldn’t do the stair stepper since none were available). I tested my luck in handstand push ups but I couldn’t do much 😪 My shoulders were too sore, but the second clip is a pretty routine part of my ab training. Hanging leg raises target your lower abs, pretty much the hardest part to hit. After a pretty high volume/weight leg session, my legs felt thicker than a snicker, and so I decided to show you guys the best I could....through a gym-mirror selfie 😂 I don't know what all of your legs look like after a propah leg day, but mine get very veiny and feel very pumped! I was going to end by paying my dues on the ol-reliable (a.k.a the stair stepper) but my legs were so tired already, and God sent me a sign with none being available when I checked. Deadlifts, for as much as I love/hate them (our relationship is tricky😂), have always been a lift I want to dominate. Unfortunately, ever since losing weight, I haven't been able to really pull incredible weight. Over the weekend, however, I went in to the gym and set a goal. This is a video of me achieving that goal. An unimpressive 425 pound pull, but honestly, it made me very happy to get. You'll see at the end, I held my lockout for about 3 or 4 seconds. There's actual physical reason behind extending your lockout, but for me, this was just the cherry on top of me achieving the goal. I know plenty of you watching this can deadlift far heavier than me, but that's okay. Yesterday was leg day, and I managed to kill them yet again! However, instead of showing you another squat video, I thought I'd have a small PSA. The leg press is a GREAT accessory machine workout for your leg days to include. However, I see too many people, especially dudes in short shorts and cut offs, hopping on this machine and start "ego-lifting." First off, leave your egos to when you lift arms, that's about the only place I see it really fitting. Secondly, this machine isn't meant to see how many plates you can stack on it and then jiggle your legs and call it reps. This is meant to help create extra depth, and force you to use your flutes, hamstrings, and quads all in one even motion. You can see my knees practically hitting my gigantic nose, and that's how far you should be allowing this machine to come down before you push it back up! A lot of people have asked me since my weight loss what I did to lose it. They ask me what my workout regiment was, what my diet consisted of, basically everything and anything they could think of that might play a roll in losing weight and excess fat. Of course Intold them what helped me lose the unwanted weight, but the biggest thing I told everyone was that there is no secret formula. Your body is unique, and needs a unique plan to lose weight properly. With this being said, I also made sure to tell them how important it is to know that losing weight and excess fat is NOT an overnight solution. It takes months, more likely than not years, in order to surpass your goal. That is why I love this analogy. You don't notice every single pound lost, it just isn't possible. But come the end, you will be able to see the true difference. Yesterday's leg day definitely could've been better, but you do what you can despite it. I hit 225 lb squats for what I think was 8 sets of AMRAP (as many reps as possible) just trying to get volume work in. Here, however, is a hidden gem for building bigger and stronger calves! Instead of only keeping your toes forward, do three different variations all at once! Start with your toes out, heels in. Then switch to your normal forward stance. And then finish off with your toes in, and heels out! The lactic acid will build up almost immediately, but keep pushing through! Do 4-5 sets of this, (one set being all three variations) combined with other calf exercises and you'll see them puppies grow! It's been a loonnggg week. Every workout this week has been a grind. My dues have been getting paid less than often. But, today was an awesome workout! Shoulders felt solid today and hopefully this video shows it! I supersetted these with sitting strict-form lateral raises, followed by bent over tea felt dumbbell flies. The entire workout had a superset of either 2 or 3 exercises, which really got to me by the end because of the lactic acid! Sorry for the lack of posts as of late, I've been super busy. This weekend, I came back home (Philadelphia) for the Made in America music festival! Despite having that consume most of my time, I still managed to get to my old gym yesterday morning, as well as get in a couple of runs! Luckily, I managed to stay relatively active, even though I couldn't lift as much as I would have liked.
