I am trying "hard" to get my friends into the world of craft beer. And I tried again as we were getting together for a beach day. I picked this Oppale from 32 Via Dei Birrai as I thought that would be easier to start with. But poor little blonde I am, I didn't realize that the brewery description as a "highly hopped top fermented beer" could lead to some surprises. In my head I was going either for a gentle IPA or a Pale Ale. What I mainly remember from my friends is "ouch it's bitter" as they had started drinking before I even had put my nose on it. Came up with a "frizzante" pale golden beer, with on the nose a big caramel. Herbal surrounding, with some lemon peel, some peppermint and a very sweet ripped pineapple. Again this caramel malt touch on the front of the aromas. Light body, not really feeling a 5,5% ABV so in my head it started being a session like style. Still slightly herbal. Light flowery scent, piney. And nothing like the "big" bitterness up to my friends (funny again to realize how our palate evolves). I came with a mild bitterness especially late and not empowering the whole scene. To follow a tiny crispy toasted malt and a very clean profile making me think of a lager like character. And some spice character / spicy phenols appeared at the same time I was trying discreetly to check out on the brewery. And my session became Belgian Pale Ale style. For the little story this brewery won in 2012 the logo Houblon Belge. Cheers guys !
