Do you train your 'core'? Heck, do you even know what it means and what it is meant to do? While there are varying ideas on exactly which muscles comprise the core, you can think of the core as a cylinder like that of a soda can. Inside this cylinder, the 'core' muscles attempt to keep your spine and pelvis (hip) stable and safe. Alright, how exactly do the 'core' muscles function? 1️⃣ The stabilising function - unlike most muscles that create motion, the core muscles attempt to prevent motion in order to protect the spine/pelvis. This is also where proper breathing techniques help. Going back to the soda can analogy, when the can is unopened and contains internal pressure, it is  difficult to crush it. Don't believe me? Take an empty, opened can and try crushing it. Easy, right? Now try the same thing with an unopened can. Where's your inner hulk now huh? :) When the core muscles work correctly with execution of proper breathing patterns (and assuming that your joints are in the right positions), internal pressure is generated (like in the filled soda can). This internal pressure protects the spine from external load, thus, stabilising it. 2️⃣ Force transfer - another important, often overlooked function of the core is to transmit force from your lower body to your upper body and vice versa. It acts like a bridge between the two, permitting full body, powerful force generation to occur which wouldn't normally occur without it. He has awesome content, so if you aren’t following him yet, you should 👍🏼 I’ll let him take it from here ⤵️. . Before we go on let me define what the core is because the term is so often used to refer to your abs or midsection when in fact it's your body minus the limbs and your head. . This is why I’ve included the column labelled Compound Exercises which includes staple lifts for any strength training program. Yes the chest press and pull-ups are also relevant but there’s not enough space. . The core is like a cylinder or canister. It includes the usual suspects such as the abs and obliques but there’s more such as the transverse abdominis, the pelvic floor, the diaphragm and muscles that run down the back. . We need a strong core to help transfer force from out lower body to our upper body as well as resist external force, especially if you’re in some kind of contact sport. . Also, having a well developed core will make you look and feel awesome. . So, in order to train the core thoroughly we need to train it to resist so that’s why I have the other 3 columns: . ✅Anti-Extension ✅Anti-Rotation ✅Anti-Lateral Flexion and a bonus one... ✅AntiPasto😋, joking😂 . Ao invés de ficar quieta, não me contive 🤦🏻‍♀️ e fui pedir para examiná-la. Tinha 4 dedos de #diástase e nenhum filho! “Eu sei Dra, sempre tive o abdome fraco. Preciso melhorar...” Oi?! Vc sabia disso?! 😳 - O abdome é o centro de força do nosso corpo. Se ele for fraco, o resto todo vai sofrer! No caso dela, não tinha força no abdome suficiente para realizar os exercícios e a parede #abd#abdominal acabou rompendo com o esforço. Portanto, mulheres sem filhos e homens que praticam Cross Fit: antes de aumentarem a carga ou fazerem exercícios que exijam técnica apurada, observem se vocês têm o #abdomen preparado para isso, senão ele vai se lesionar (diástase) e futuramente a coluna vai sofrer! Por #fortalecimento #abdominal eu me refiro também à musculatura profunda. Não adianta fazer somente exercícios para reto abdominal! Pelo contrário!
