Heading off to vote! Today we’re voting to save the Reef and stop Adani.
Adani’s controversial Carmichael mine has been making headlines as a prominent election issue. And so it should.
The proposed mine would draw billions of litres of groundwater that Queensland farmers rely on, the traditional owners of the land of the proposed site (the Wangan and Jagalingou people) DO NOT consent to the mine being built and the emissions from burning the coal would:
- exacerbate climate change and extreme weather on a global scale,
- destroy the Great Barrier Reef, and
- cancel out the emissions reduction target that Australia committed to under the 2015 Paris Agreement. It would ensure the global average temperature exceeds 2 degrees warming which will have devastating effects worldwide. This is the fight of our times. We must #StopAdani 🌏🌊🙅🏼♀️
