Facial steam whattt? This is a thing and I’m totally ok with it. Hopefully I explain this correctly... you put some in hot (maybe boiling?) water, lower your face to it with a towel around your head. Wait 5 minutes and your skin will be *glowing* and probably hot... but it’s worth it, right? Get yours by @mulleinandsparrow at @awaremarketplaceltd
I’ve been living in thermals & henleys this season... they are my go-to right now! 💗🙌🏼 This top is under $50 and just restocked in my fave colors. If there is one important thing to remember in dog training, it is that RESTRAINT is the enemy. That could be physical or mental. Restraint is what builds frustration in dogs AND people. No one likes being held back and chances are if you are holding your dog back physically or emotionally you are actually making them want to get to whatever they are trying to get to more
Let’s start with the easier and more black and white example. Physical restraint. This is most commonly a leash or your hands holding your dog back. We see this on the walk when passing other dogs or in the house when guests are coming over. We tense up, roll up all the slack on the leash and block our dog from making a mistake. Most times, the second they feel that restraint is when they explode. They no longer feel free to make a decision and they feel trapped triggering the response
The second is a bit more difficult to see. EMOTIONAL RESTRAINT. This is typically done through obedience. Constantly putting your dog in a bed stay or a down stay when they are around something that makes them uncomfortable or excited. Though we are not physically manipulating our dog, we are putting the mental burden of feeling trapped on them as well as not being as clear about what we want them to do. Asking our dog to go to their bed and stay to avoid having them rush the door barking when a guest rings the doorbell or having them sit before opening a door to avoid having them rush through does nothing but leave them thinking “I can’t wait until I’m released from this position so that I can do (fill in the blank)”. It leaves your dog never understanding what the expectation of them really is and never gets them to a point where they can think independently and make correct choices
How do we tackle this and get them where we want?? Well.. here are two big things you can do right off the rip to ensure that you are moving in the right direction
1.) Stop using the leash to hold your dog back. When you see another dog across the street stop tensing up on the leash. If anything give them more slack so they don’t feel restrained. Do NOT talk to your dog or say anything. (See comments)
Dug this video up earlier to show someone.. this was some time likely two summers ago
Vinny used to train for a sport called #mondioring which is a protection sport consisting of obedience, agility, and protection exercises
This is him training the focused heel exercise. He has to maintain a tight heel position with constant focus on the handler.
I haven't posted all week! 😱 But I have been having lots of delicious me time and therefore had no-one to bribe to take my photo. But I am excited to shoot some new content with @mel_costanzo this afternoon around Cleveland. Here is an old one (2016!) from when there was slightly bluer skies. I miss these boots so much - another thing locked away in my storage unit. 🙄
Sundays were made for brunch 🙌🏼 // Any place that has gold booths & marble tables is a good spot in my book 👌🏼🖤 Had to come back for @ajgallerycafe’s banana praline waffles today... so yummy! // My cropped Henley is still on sale for half off ($10!) & available in 4 colors. Fun fact: I’m not from Cleveland 😱 I know, I know. I’m originally from Indianapolis and moved to Cleveland after college back in 2011. When I first moved here, I lived in Tremont and explored so many fun places around the city. Since then, I’ve moved 5 times and now we live about 20 minutes west of the city, in Westlake. I’m always wishing I still made time to explore Cleveland like I did when I first moved here. So I’m calling on you guys! What are some of your favorite spots/events around town, new or existing? I’d love to hear from you!
Just a typical Sunday. ✅ menu planning
✅ grocery shoppimg
✅ food prepping
Now relaxing and watching Hallmark movies. Still need to get a workout done eventually before dinner. How’s your Sunday going?
You know that Christmas morning feeling? Yesterday I had the *best* time shooting all of my favorite things, under the most beautiful roof all while meeting super cool, super chic, Cleveland go-getters.
Heights canine #Columbus board and train Odin heads home tomorrow from his behavioral modification board and train. I got to spend a TON of time working with this guy the last few days working on his heeling in particular
Working heeling drills like auto sits can help tune your dog in with you and keep them hyper focused around heavy distractions while you are working with them.
Lead more than you follow.
Little mans Indians hat finally fits ❤️💙⚾️
This baby boy turns FOUR on Monday and I am all kinds of an emotional wreck over it. Titus made me a mommy. It’s kind of like a part of me was born four years ago this week. This part of me that never existed came to life.. a part of me that now knows what it is to love so absolutely unconditionally, to give even when I have nothing, to protect and worry, to pray harder than ever, to wonder how in the world I am this blessed. Titus was my little newborn baby, my firstborn, my only son, and he will forever be the one who gave me the title, “Mom”. Because of that, with every birthday he has, it is very likely that I will shed a tear or two as I watch him grow and become even more incredible. 💙#thisis4
