Today I did something that I was unsure of. A friend of mine recently lost her dad to prostate cancer. They found out a few days later that he was BRCA2+, which is the sister to my mutation.
My brave friend went to the doctor to ask about getting tested so that she would be equipped with the knowledge that she needed to secure her future. However, the doctor told her that it wasn’t possible for a man to pass the mutation onto his children, which isn’t correct.
Today, I went into that doctor’s office and spoke with the office manager. I brought her information and scholarly articles about the mutations and talked to her for a bit. The manager apologized and stated that their research wasn’t up to date. She said the doctor would probably be looking up everything about BRCA mutations all weekend.
The moral of the story is, being an advocate doesn’t just mean advocating for yourself, it means advocating for other people, too. If you know (for a fact) that something/someone is wrong, be confident enough to teach them. Stand up for what’s right. #advocate#brca#mutation#breasties#breastcancer#cancer#survivor#publichealth#standup#blog#blogger 🌸🦄🎀
Just a reminder: You don’t need to feel unimportant by the disapproval of any single individual except yourself. If you’re sitting here thinking that you do not feel as loved or appreciated or self worthy, because you feel alone, the negativity you may be encountering isn’t something that you need to absorb. If someone is trying to degrade and hurt you, focus on yourself. This goes for every single person living, not just any gender. Figure out your passions in life and fulfill that empty part of yourself and I can promise big changes. Motivation and commitment is key. This is a big energy I’ve been feeling lately. I’ve observed people who aren’t as self insured get stuck in the in-zone, but darlings, see the future and conquer it. #cancer#leo#aquarius#energies#divineguidence Have a great night❤️
