This is a #fridayintroductions with a difference and a conversation I feel needs to be had. #ihadamiscarriage 22/10/2016 Remembering Chickpea Today Chickpea died. The last of my uncomfortable, sharp, stabbing cramps soon subsided when I went to the loo and felt something leave my body. I had the foresight of laying the pool of water inside the toilet bowl with tissue, so as to catch whatever might fall there. I turned around to inspect. Instead of seeing the stringy, dark red clots and blobs that I had been monitoring since Monday evening, I saw a purple, grey, red mass, like a cocoon, laying comfortably centered in the middle. I knew then it was finally over and Chickpea had left us. I called for the nurse who had lead me to the private room and asked her to inspect it. She was so comforting and sympathetic while I had my back turned, sobbing in front of my daughter because this one baby didn't get to live. When I found out I was pregnant 5 weeks in, I was shocked and happy as it had taken five cycles and perhaps one early miscarriage that I assume was, to get pregnant. People and strangers were getting pregnant, friends told me how lucky I was just to have the one because two is so tiring. What I wouldn't give to make those excuses. At 10 weeks, my heart ended up breaking when I was certain I was experiencing the beginnings of a miscarriage and even more so when the doctor in charge of the ultrasound told me that the gestational sack was in the wrong position and was now making its way to the cervix with a failing heartbeat. What a way to start the morning. I've never experienced death that close with the ability to really gauge what is going on. Or imminent death. To have to go back to another doctor just to be told the same things and wait for everything to come out can numb you. I sat in the waiting room, cramping with a tired daughter who just wanted to play and didn't understand why her mother was crying. I'm grateful that the doctor and nurse were beyond kind and went the extra mile to be comforting and look out for Daisy. While there is hope after death, I won't forget little Chickpea who will never be less than or inadequate.
