On this day, the goal was an isolation hold of three seconds in the “hole” before exploding up. 135lbs 3 sets of 5 each leg. Lunge Progression Series: Single leg movements are essential for hip stability, well rounded glutes (pun intended) and balance/coordination. While lunging on one leg, more muscle is recruited in the glute/hamstring/quad versus a squat or deadlift providing a big bang for your buck! Start with the body weight split squat before adding weight and progressing on to the next movement. Happy lunging 🙂

As voted for by you guys, this weeks #hejformfridays is on Bulgarian Split Squats 💁🏼 • As you may have seen on the gram, there a multiple ways to perform this exercise, and none are necessarily wrong! But to make life easier for you, I’ve highlighted a few of the key points for both quad and glute focused split squats along with some things to think about no matter which way you choose to do them!💭 • When I programme this exercise for myself I programme it as a glute exercise, but I’m very aware it’s always gonna hit the quads a little too. The changes in the video are the ones I employ to make sure I’m hitting my glutes harder than my quads when I perform this exercise, but like I said, neither is wrong... they’re all just personal preference!🤷🏼‍♀️ • The last clip however is important no matter how you choose to perform the exercise. In the past, particularly on my left leg which is my weaker side, I had a tendency to let my hips twist, which in turn threw me off balance and made my knee super wobbly and unstable. By focusing on activating the glute of my back leg as well as the working leg, I can now complete the entire movement with full ROM whilst keeping my hips in line, granted with a little less weight, but it’s amazing the difference it’s made to how this exercise feels for me!🔥 • Give these tips a go and see how you get on.
