Since we are near the all star weekend, I thought I would list my predictions for the awards this season:
For MVP I had to pick James Harden. His stat line is hard to resist and he has helped his team to the 2nd seed in the West. Although he does have Chris Paul as a teammate this season, these stats aren’t unusual for James Harden. However, if the Cavs turn their season around and reclaim the East then Lebron James might win MVP.
For Most Improved Player I picked the more obvious choice in Victor Oladipo. He has definitely made a statement this season and although the Pacers haven’t been performing too well in terms of the playoff picture, he has turned a lot of heads and made a name for himself in the. NBA.
For Defensive Player of the Year I picked Demarcus Cousins. This decision was harder than the other ones simply because Kawhi Leonard has only played 9 games. He has shown that he can work very well alongside Anthony Davis and has a very balanced stat line on defense to prove that he can be a threat on both ends of the court.
For Rookie of the Year I had to pick Ben Simmons. He honestly has the most balanced stat line of any of the players on this list and maybe around the league. He has become a threat on both sides of the court and can do almost anything you need him to do (except maybe shoot an outside jump shot). He has proven himself to already have the potential to be one of the leagues elite and is living up to most of the hype placed on him.
For Coach of the Year I picked Gregg Popovich. I think that this award is long overdue for Pop and he has shown us why he deserves it. He has lead the Spurs to a 30-16 record and the 3rd seed in the West without Kawhi Leonard. This is something that Pop continues to do year after year and it deserves to be recognized. •
Congratulations to Lexie Brown for surpassing the 1,000-Point mark for her career at Duke last night on the road vs Virginia Tech, standing now at 1,013 points. Her NCAA career total is now 1,841! @lexiebrown4 is shown here driving to the basket against UVA.
