I don't believe recovery has an endpoint. I believe it starts with a choice - a choice to commit to yourself, rather than your eating disorder's wishes. And it's a choice that you have to make every goddamn day for the rest of your life. A year ago, I made that choice again for the first time in too long. I re-entered treatment. For 6 years, I had been leading a mental health organization, yet I let my mental health crumble beneath me. I was a research assistant at Oxford, working on early interventions for eating disorders, while mine was still haunting me. I trained parents in London on how to care for their loved ones with anorexia, but I still hadn't learned how to care for myself. My life was so full of ironies that it became unbearable. So I had to make that choice again, 7 years after entering treatment for the first time. It's true, maybe I could have maintained that facade. But I didn't want to anymore. And I'm so glad I didn't.

it’s my birthday !! 👑♡ tbh the past few days haven’t been really easy since my parents are always working 🤷🏼‍♀️ anyway as you can see i was super proud of this lil creation lol. i just blended 2 açai packs with half a banana and some soy milk, then poured it into my new @coconutbowls (which i got for my bday) and then topped it off with some banana slices, caramelised buckinis from loving earth and chia seeds 😻🤤 pictured is also some watermelon that i had as a snack 🍉🌱 ⼀

I’ve been back at yparc for two or three days now, back from hospital which has been nice. I have been trying so hard to eat everyday but I’ve still managed to lose even more weight despite eating. I have a review with the psychiatrist tomorrow and the clinician said that they might put me in hospital under the mental health act because of my weight. really feeling like I can’t win at the moment 🙃 I eat food that doesn’t make me self-destructive but it makes me lose weight. I eat a ‘normal’ meal and I become self-destructive. Gained 2.2lb this week. Over all lose 2lb since the start. Always kinda knew this week food wise had been poor so no surprise. I’ve woken up in a real shitty head space anyway. Think the harsh reality of opening up to the OHT (Occupational Health Therapist) & actually realising I’m not only battling myself but also some people around me. I’d love to be able to just say what I need but it just feels like it would make the situation worse. Majority of the people around me have been nothing but supportive & incredible! But when you’re not given the time of day but others it just increases the doubt in your head. I feel like I’ve been taken advantage of. I know my mistakes but at the same time I question how genuine some people are. The best thing I can do is not focus on them (easier said than done) & allow myself the mindset to win my own personal battles 💪 #MentalHealth #Anxiety #Depression

Anxiety is creeping back into my life at the minute. I recently quit my job to run my own business full time. I’ve always found it hard to commit to anything important for myself. I spose it’s a thing of self worth & love. Ive been giving myself a hard time that I’m being lazy and not working hard enough. I’m struggling to get up in the mornings. So today I forced myself to wake up at 6am so I could get a full day in. But when u didn’t get a full nights sleep and your body aches the mind set can be hard to keep positive and motivated. If I was talking to someone else I’d say “don’t give your self a hard time, let it go and just do something good for yourself everyday” I say this to my self but that other voice can become much louder once it knows your listening. Something that can really mess up your progress and lifting game is having too many shitty people in your life. But, it will only bring you down if you let it. Use it as a force to push you harder instead of making you feel weak, worthless or unimportant. Ignore the gossip by so called “friends". Ignore people that try to make you feel like something is wrong with you. Those people are not friends. They never were. People will use you, take your kindness, advice, help, friendship and love for months or even years and still not give a damn about how you are doing. That says a lot more about them than it does about you. Those people have not grown yet and they are still selfish. Use it as an example of how not to be and stay positive. You are better than that and that's why people are drawn to you in the first place. Be pickier about future friends and move on. Put effort into people that reciprocate the same care back to you and others. Not people that are too self absorbed to care about anything that doesn't directly effect them. We as humans CONSTANTLY grow and learn and that will never end. Work on being the best you possible and make sure you keep a circles of friends that do the same. Train people at the gym without thanks and do it with a grateful heart that you get to help someone. Be a good friend to those that call you their friend and never stop trying to be a good person to others. I am eternally grateful to have my husband as my best friend because with every passing day, month, year..... people show their true colors. Appreciate the good people YOU have in your life because we are lucky when we find a genuine and caring person in this world.

So many New Year Resolutions are about physical health - losing weight, drinking less, eating the right things. But we forget about our mental health. I’ve never been great at (publicly) talking about my mental health but it’s important to acknowledge a win. My nails have always been a symbol of my failure to take care of my mental health, a symptom of my anxiety, a reminder whenever I look at my hands that I’m not in control or that I’d rather self-sabotage than succeed. I worked really hard to turn something I hated about myself into something I could be proud of and celebrate - a little each day until I got where I wanted to be. Of course sometimes, it’s all you can do not to feel trapped inside yourself and not everyone can do it themselves. It’s important to reach out and get help if you need to - be it medication, therapy or support. This tiny thing I did for me worked for me and it’s just pretty great to be able to look down and see tangible, progress in my mental health and feel great about doing it myself.
