When Tuesday feels like Monday...Dry Shampoo to the rescue!
My workspace is about as unfocused as I am. I think a little clutter adds to creativity—as long as it's not that much clutter. I absolutely can't work if my space is a mess. If I were about to sit down and write after taking this picture, I'd most likely move my plants to give me a little more room. In recent years, I've also learned my favorite way to procrastinate is by cleaning my room. If I have to slog through a chapter or dive into edits, it seems like the room is much more messy than I thought... and I CAN'T just leave the mess there after all! 😂
Luckily, I've found two way to get around this "productive" procrastination problem:
1. Do a big clean once a week, and tidy a little bit every day. This way, the room doesn't become a disaster zone, and there won't be as much (feasibly) for me to clean. 💃
2. This one is new: I don't leave my chair until I've reached my goal, whether that's a total word count, words per day, or anything of that nature. I get snacks and a drink and go to the bathroom before I sit down. Then, once I start working, I know I can't leave my chair. And how can I clean if I can't leave my chair?? 😬
These tips aren't foolproof, of course. Sometimes I mess up. Sometimes instead of cleaning, I let myself turn on the TV, queue up Netflix, and... you know the rest. For me, the key to productivity seems to be inertia. The hardest part is getting started. If I can do that, I'll be fine.
