THE SHAPE OF WATER is this weeks READ INTO IT post. (1/6)
“The Shape of Water” incorporates elements of fairy tale, romanticism, and golden age horror to create something unique and contemporary. The film opens with our protagonist, Eliza, dreaming in a world of water, and waking to world of air—before she’s spoken a word, we know that she’s a fish out water. She lives in flat above a movie house and on this night, while she readies herself for her night shift “The Story of Ruth” plays on the silver screen below her—Ruth was an outsider as well.
Though the film takes place in Baltimore in the sixties gem colour scale sets the film outside the technicolor past one might be accustomed to. The hints of teal topaz, yellow citrine, deep sapphires, ruby reds, emerald greens and amethysts purples that colour the film create a fairy tale environment. Like a Brother’s Grimm tale, Eliza’s works in an psuido-underworld punctuated by horror, but unlike most Brother’s Grimm tales, the moral of this story is to venture outside the lines set by society, not stay within them.

As always, a huge thank you to Kelly at @covertart who makes all my original art posts!
I never would have guess that someone I briefly knew as a kid would become one of my closest friends. I hope you have a blast in Japan and I’m so excited that you get this opportunity. Definitely going to miss your crazy spirit and can’t wait to catch up when you get back! See you in 8 months @karaboo56
All you really need is 1 person to say "I believe in you" and truly mean it.
I'm very grateful to have someone who doesn't just say it as a platitude, but shows it every single day with her unwavering support.
It is so worth investing in those closest to you. This year I really want to nourish the relationships and friendships I'm so privileged to have.
I love social media, and its power to connect, but I want to use it as a supplement, not the main course.
