In this mornings practice I taught on the perspective of order & chaos and how this practice of yoga is about finding our dharma, your purpose or intent, to hold steadfast in a chaotic world. To use one’s asana practice as a way to organize or align yourself to the natural world within the chaos we all live in. The mat or the practice is like an internal compass which gives you direction or an organizing principle in relation to where you are right now, in space & time. The yogi’s looked out into the world and noticed a natural orderliness RTA, like for example the sun & moon rise and fall each day, and through this practice of yoga we should “yoke” “bind” ourselves to the natural order of the universe. Namaste Omies! Have a wonderful, orderly Saturday 🙏🏻🕉
Why am I so happy you might ask? Because my first ever MOBILITY program on @yogaglo is available now! Click the link in my bio and get movin’ and mobile with me 😉🙌🙏
This intro to mobility plan is a direct representation of my current self practice when I’m looking to feel good in my body. As always, I’m learning more and more everyday about my body, all things yoga, and really, all things movement and mobility. I’m excited to share this all with you!
Saturdays are not for stress, really everyday can be without it.
I find myself stressing over the same things I always have:
Not having enough time to do everything I want, executing my goals on time, balancing my life, doing and being enough.
When I write these words of the things that worry me, they worry me a little less. Why?
When I read it outside of myself I realize how wasteful it is of my energy to focus on something that is an illusion.
I am created stress by focusing on these things.
As soon as I acknowledge it, I have the opportunity to set it free.
And so it is.

Having my own cork block party 😜 Who knew that working on squeezing ur feet towards one another will help create stability in your handstand among other things? 🙄😂
For real though, you can see the struggle between keeping my balance and finding a solid line with this kind of practice. Give it go and let me know what you think 🙌
DAY 1 of Kitchari or Kitchadi cleanse/detox/reset.
Couple of days ago I decided to do a three day kitchari cleanse. I have never in my life done any diets, cleanses, fastings or any of sort. So why did I go for this one? First, I really like kitchari, every single time it takes me back to dinner table in Dharamkot, India, with sun setting, Himalayas around, distant sounds of birds. Secondly, this winter has been rough on my body, I just haven’t been feeling right.
Kitchari in Ayurvedic tradition is known as a cleansing and complete protein meal, it is very easy to digest. Hence kitchari mono diet gives your digestive system a chance to rest and reset. And our digestive health is really at the core of everything, if our digestive system doesn’t function properly, then our bodies don’t function properly. So start healing from the inside out.
It is really easy to make kitchari, it is a one pot wonder made of rice and lentils or legumes such as mung beans, I added some carrots and sweet potatoes to mine and green peas as well as spinach. The heart of the dish is spices- cumin, black mustard, coriander, turmeric, cinnamon, salt and ginger.
This is my excited and proud face, it is the middle of the first day and I have had loads of water, two bowls of kitchari, one herbal tea and I fought and won two chocolate cravings.
My body deserves this reset and room for healing.

Ego off the mat. I’ve been practicing yoga since 2013, but only in January of last year did I decide on Ashtanga Yoga as my personal practice. It wasn’t easy shifting from Vinyasa, where one can explore a variation of postures, to Ashtanga, a practice with a set sequence. I started with four days a week as my minimum until I decided to do six days by mid-2017 until present. My first ‘assignment’ from Teacher @odinnicolas was Bhujapidasana. There’s something about his approach that made me decide to practice under his guidance when I first attended his class. I’m drawn to the emphasis he puts on breathing plus mastering, if not polishing, postures. I understand every teacher is different and I respect every one’s teaching style. Whilst some appreciate being given more postures, I appreciate the hard work I'm required to put into giving integrity to the postures. I’ve accepted the responsibility to stay true and dedicated to my chosen path. Here’s sharing with you my latest ‘assignment’ as a student. I’m still trying to figure out how I can transition with legs straight. While I was practicing it one time, I realized it was easier for me to rise just before the inhalation to UMP. Ah, that eureka moment.
How’s your practice going, Kaya loves? I’ve come across people who asked why I still take classes and/or workshops when I am a teacher myself. The answer is simple: I was once and will always be a student. I am not omniscient. I love learning. I crave it. I am delighted to witness how other people practice when I am on the mat as a student. I get excited to share my new adventures with the Kaya community here. And as soon as that happens, I morph back to being a teacher again. See, if you let your ego out the door, you’ll realize there’s so much [we need] to learn... there’s so much more that we can share. 💕

Find some time today to be with yourself. Allow your breath to occur without changing or controlling it, observe the physical sensations of your inhale and your exhale. The breath is always what is going on right now in this moment, anchor yourself in the present moment.
Be present with yourself.
#kapotasana variation for #ayearofyoga2018 nearly forgot about this one because me and backbends don’t fit well together! Kept it at the wall again this year to compare and I feel maybe a little more bend and freedom in chest and shoulders!
