🙌🏻 It took me two weeks to reach my first museum in Auckland - unspeakably long by my usual nerd standards.
Partially, I was distracted by leaping from from volcano cone to another, but hey, then I realized that Auckland Museum also stands on the rim of Pukekawa crater.
And, yes, I loved AM. Especially, the first floor with Māori wood carvings and Polynesian sails. Need to rewatch “Moana” asap and sing along:
“Every turn I take, every trail I track
Every path I make, every road leads back
To the place I know, where I can not go, where I long to be”
Please don’t judge.

This stunningly calm, fiery sunset at Lake Pukaki taken last month leaves me breathless each time I look at it. I will never forget sitting on warm rocks, barefoot, legs dusty & scraped up from a day full of adventures, soaking up Mount Cook in all her glory. 😍 I have never been so warm sitting on the banks of a glacier fed lake in all my life! Never mind it was after 10pm and there were three bloody kids (literally, they all injured themselves or each other in one way or another that day) yelling and playing so it wasn't the quietest sunset 😂 but hey, who would know looking at this photo?
Now for my question to you all. If I offered a print store as such to buy prints & canvases to be delivered straight to you while I am overseas this year, is that something you all would be keen for? Let me know in the comments please!
Hope everyone is managing through what's left of Cyclone Gita!
New Zealand.. you’re amazing!
Here’s a snap of us just before our gig at The Common Room on a perfect Sunday afternoon 🌞
Catch us in Wellington this Thursday for our show with Acoustic Routes before we jump on the ferry to the South Island! ✌🏼
As I open the door and step into the room, Roy starts to stir. Blood is still dripping from the wound in his knee, while a gooey liquid dribbles down his cheek from the eye socket where his left eye had once been.
A horrible stench fills the room, and I realise that Roy had soiled himself at some point during his pain-induced nap.
When he looks up at me as I approach, he immediately lets out a frightened gasp.
“F-fuck off!” he chokes as he struggles to wriggle his hands free from the binds, but to no avail. “Leave me the fuck alone!”
As soon as I reach him, I quickly wrap a hand around his throat and force his head back, which in turn causes the crossbow bolt wounds on my left shoulder to flare up. As he lets out a shocked gasp, I clench my fist into a ball then powerfully thrust it forward into his chest, generating a crunching thud.
“When I get out of this, I’m gonna make you suffer!” Roy snarls in between gasps.
“Not if I make you suffer first,” I reply as I unsheathe my knife and position the blade just above the inner elbow joint, where the brachial artery would be.
Without hesitation, I press the sharp blade against his skin and viciously slice across the arm, severing the brachial artery.
A horrible shriek fills the room as blood begins to gush out in pulses, which causes Roy to convulse violently.
“That was for my sister, you son of a bitch,” I say coldly as I rub both sides of the knife against his chest, wiping off the blood. “In about four minutes, you’ll bleed to death. Eventually, you will come back as one of them, just as my little sister did. Enjoy your ride to purgatory.”
With that, I turn around and walk for the door, sheathing my knife, and leave Roy to die in agony.
Orcas are the ocean’s top predators, capable of killing anything from fish to birds and sharks to baleen whales. Across three dietary eco-types, resident (fish-eating), transient (mammal-eating) and offshore (fish-and-shark-eating), orcas have developed sophisticated hunting techniques, many of which co-operative, to successfully prey on more than 140 species of animals.
In their wild habitat, orcas spend between 65% to 90% of daylight hours foraging and hunting for food. However, in captivity, orcas are stripped of the ability to forage and given no opportunity to hunt live prey. Instead, they are hand fed a diet of frozen fish which has a lower water content than fresh fish due to freezing and thawing processes, leading to chronic dehydration.
One of the causes for dorsal fin collapse (also known as flaccid fin syndrome) is linked to dehydration. Collagen, the structural protein the dorsal fin consists of, requires water to maintain its rigid structure, therefore, dehydration will weaken the structure causing the dorsal fin to collapse. To counteract the lower water content diet, captive orca are given ice and gelatine (a substance that is not natural to them) in attempt to keep them hydrated. Tilikum, who weighed 12,000 lbs, consumed 83 pounds of gelatine a day prior to his death in January 2017.
