As a Police Officer, it hurts to see how some parents who are minorities, are teaching these young children that the Police are to be feared. Growing up, I was always taught to show the Police respect no matter what the situation was. Another thing that really bothers me, as I patrol lower income areas in my beat, is hearing small children (ages 5-10yrs) yelling the Po-Po is here! As they see us driving by or a 6 year old girl scared to take a Police sticker from me because her mom hates the Police and she will get mad at her for having it. And before anybody bashes me for slamming minority parents, I'm a minority.
To all my LEO's, when you see small children anywhere, a simple wave or hello could change their perception about the Police, regardless of what the parents are teaching them.

Photo booth 1 of 2 tonight. Celebrating GH COPS Holiday Party with BloomBooth!
You meet the nicest people at Quilt Festival including Houston PD. They're always at the convention center helping, protecting and in some cases just making us laugh (like this officer that I met at market last week while getting Starbucks). Thank you for all that you do! 👮🏻 #sewmanycreations#houstonpd#quiltfestival
So its Domestic Violence awareness month. The news is going to show some stuff. Some people are going to speak out and then move on with their day to day. This is what it looks like to me, EVERYDAY.
My aunt, @Tamron Hall, has done a great job raising awareness. What has bothered me more than anything over the past 13 years is the lack of answers. The Houston Police Dept did nothing. The Harris County D.A. office did nothing. They won't even return my phone calls.
I don't get the option not to answer the questions. I spare my son the details on how his grandmother was beat unconscious and left in her swimming pool to drown. I don't spare him the fact that she murdered.
Don't wait until there are no options left. I did, and I have to live with that. I should have stepped in when I thought something was wrong. The signs are obvious when you choose to see them. Don't turn a blind eye to someone in the situation my mother was in.

THE STORY OF HARVEY: Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo was a keynote speaker at the seventh annual Texas Tribune Festival held today on the UT campus. In a discussion that was both somber and uplifting, Acevedo explained the impact #Harvey had on Houston and on the United States with Texas Tribune editor-in-chief Emily Ramshaw. Acevado discussed how the horrible Halloween floods last year prepared him for Harvey. "There were valuable lessons learned from those floods," he said. "I'll never forget waking up to those floods. All of our gauges measuring the water level had been knocked out. I learned that you cannot always rely on technology. I never make the same mistake twice, so what we did leading up to Harvey was to put every member of the Houston Police Department on tactical duty, meaning they were all in uniform. This allowed us to have a system in place when the storm hit. We also had eyes on the bayous and were able to warn people of the flooding." He also discussed the silver lining of the storm. "We took over the 'Cajun Navy' (a volunteer group of Louisianan and East Texan citizens). These volunteers were really the true heroes, it was a beautiful thing to watch. There were thousands of people that needed help, and I didn't care how they were saved; we needed people to save them. These people coming from Louisiana, they were a modern-day Dunkirk. They brought their airboats, their food, and their Cajun spices." Overwhelmed with the outpour of donations we have received to raffle and auction off. All of our hard work is finally coming to fruition and will hopefully make a big difference in the lives of Houston’s First Responders. Just imagine having to leave your possesions and family without the opportunity to prepapre for such a devastating natural disaster because you selflessly left it all behind to make sure your community was out of danger’s way. To all of the first responders in Houston, we thank you for putting yourselves in harms way for the betterment of others. To all of my Boston friends, feel free to join us tonight as we have awesome raffle and auction items, great people, and good music. Be sure to bring your wallet as it is $20.00 at the door. Oh yeah did I mention all of the door proceeds and money from the 40 raffles/auctions go to the first responders?! Shout out to Central Wharf for giving us the venue and hors d'oeuvres... I'll be there at 8 but starts at 6. #mandatoried#fundraiser#hurricaneharvey#boston#corresponders# bostonstrong #houstonstrong#charity#bigpapi#bergeron#bruins#redsox#salonikigreek#everybodyfights#houstonpd#houstonpolice#houstonfire
St. Luke’s Day School had wonderful sharing chapels this week celebrating Houston’s Harvey Helpers! Julie Ellerbrock and Debbie Weymouth prayed with our children, thanking God for wonderfully creating each of us with special helper gifts. And, our special helper guests, SLDS parents Roy & Christa Salinas (HFD & HPD), shared with us how they rescued and kept people safe during and after the storm. Our very generous parents and children donated 41 can openers, 104 boxes of cereal, 162 canned foods and 890 cereal bars to Nechama, our SLUMC partner in flood recovery, and to CCSC! So grateful for all of our Harvey Helpers! ❤️#SLUMC #slds20172018#harvey#helpers#houstonpd#houstonfiredeptst27#generositystartsyoung
Yesterday was an extremely busy day in Houston meeting all the volunteers in the area pitching in with their time and effort. We also would like to thank some very important people making this all happen.
First and foremost James "Mattress Mack" McIngvale and the entire team at Gallery Furniture.
Secondly we took some time out to meet just some of the first responders and Houston's top of the line heroes. These department's really do an incredible job. Special shout out to the North Patrol Division and all the men and women of the Houston Police Department as well as everyone of the Houston Fire Department.
Also thanks to @iheartradio and the guys over at Sports Talk 790. Great interview!
The purpose of this trip was to give back. When New Yorkers are in need the great state of Texas has always been there to return the favor. This country is facing some tough times and the only way to get thru it is to stick together. Thank you to the great people of #hou#houston and EVERY city in the state of Texas that was affected by #hurricaneharvey for your hospitality, determination and great spirit.
Stay tuned next week for information on the BIG Texas Strong Motorcycle Auction taking place on October 12th and how you can participate. .
