UFC Fight Night 126
(February 18 2018)
Donald Cerrone Vs Yancy Medeiros
Donald Cerrone Via Round 1 TKO
Donald Cerrone is back!
It may have taken four attempts, but Cowboy Cerrone is now officially tied for the most wins and finishes in UFC history. What better way to tie the record than to get an exciting first round finish.
The fight got off to a fast start, with Medeiros pushing the action early. Although he spend most of the first few minutes on his back foot, Cowboy was effective in making Yancy miss and over reach on shots. With about two minutes left in the round, Yancy landed his biggest shot of the fight - catching Cowboy backing up with his chin high. Although he was hit with a clean left hand, Cowboy was able to land a left hand counter of his own - dropping Medeiros. Following this exchange Cowboy began to find his rhythm - keeping Medeiros either out of range or forcing him into a clinch. With around thirty seconds left in the round Cowboy began to let his combinations fly, catching Yancy with multiple shots. Almost in unison with the ten second warning, Donald landed a well placed right hand that send Medeiros stumbling and falling to the canvas - following up to finish the fight with two seconds left in the round.
After a 0-3 run in 2017, it is great to see Cowboy backing in the winners column. This was a pivotal fight for his career and served as a great test. Donald stated after the fight that he is planning a move back to Lightweight. I personally don’t think that is the right move at this point in his career but I am also not going to complain because the potential matchups are going to be amazing. I would absolutely love to see his first fight back in the weight class come against his former foe and number 8 ranked Lightweight Nate Diaz. It is hard to predict if and when Diaz will return to competition but if he does do so this year, a matchup with Cowboy would make perfect sense.

My father had a hard but passionate life. He fought and loved and learned the hard way. I am very much a part of him and I’d like to think that I got the best of his traits. He and my mom set me on an artistic and adventurous path. He told me to learn every thing I could. I always thought he was a bullshitter, but he had so much knowledge and many hidden talents. I hope he knows how much he means to me. I hope he knows how much I love him. I miss him so much. #family#father#mementomori#love#restinpeace#memorial#cowboy#outlaw#tellingstories#motorcycle#veteran#vietnamvet
