I'll be the first to admit that I was never a die hard Hip fan but I did love a variety of their tunes and a number of them had a lasting impact on me in my youth and even now. Even before he announced his illness I had always found Gord Downie to be so much more than an artist, musician or poet. He has left a deep, deep legacy that extends beyond music and national politics that no one will be able to fully articulate. For those reasons and more, I couldn't walk by the recycling bin I saw this in today and not scoop it out. #ripgorddownie #tragicallyhip #canada

A year ago, I took my first picture at the Nathan Phillips Square. That was the first day I explored the city, I already knew that this year will be amazing and it was. Today I went to the exact same place and see how everything have changed 🍁❤🦊 • • • • You can scroll all my Insta until that specific picture to see all the best moments I had during this year ❤ #oneyearanniversery #Toronto #lov#loveyou #mycity #Ontario #Canada #canadaadventure #citizenoftheworld #aboveandbeyond #throwback #memories #lifetime #lifeexperience #feelinggoood #love #travelers #thefox #curiosity #neverforget #neverstopexploring #Torontosign

Born on October 15, 1935, in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada; Willie O'Ree was the first black player in the National Hockey League. He began playing hockey as a child in Canada; played wing in Canadian Juniors, with many minor league teams. Mr. O’Ree made history January 18, 1958 with the Boston Bruins when they faced the Montreal Canadiens. Willie O’Ree retired permanently, 1980. Although Willie O'Ree was 95% blind in his right eye, he managed to keep it secret and had a successful nineteen year career as a professional hockey player. In a sport dominated by white athletes then and now, O'Ree never received much media coverage; He also faced racism, discrimination, unfairness, and ignorance every day. Opposing players fought him just because he was black. Fans spat or threw drinks at him. Some even went into the penalty box to fight him. But still he kept on playing and tried as hard as he could for every minute he was on the ice. Willie O’Ree opened the door for black athletes to play in the NHL. After O'Ree's stint in the NHL, there were no other black player in the NHL until another Canadian player, Mike Marson, was drafted by the Washington Capitals in 1974. Today, there are over 30 black players in the NHL , the most prominent being Canadian P.K. #Subban #WillieOree , #NHL , #LNH , #Hockey , #Canada , #AfroCanadians , #BostonBruins , #MontrealCanadiens , #MikeMarson , #AfricanDiaspora , #blackhistory , #blackcanadians #cbc #hockeynightincanada #rds #tsn #panafricanism #Africandiaspora #WashingtonCapitals #penaltybox #NewBrunswick #NouveauBrunswick #Fredericton #Africaunite #nhlplayoffs #nbaplayoffs #Sta#Stanleycupplayoffs #Stanleycup #professor_nyembo
